I am pleased to announce that St. Mark’s Episcopal Church has selected a new Day School Director to replace Jane Smith. Jane screened the many resumes we received and followed up with a phone interview with each qualified candidate. We were pleased to invite the top four candidates to meet with Jane and me. Two of those women stood out as very qualified, professional, and true leaders. A group of teachers and a group of parishioners interviewed the finalists, and all eleven interviewers unanimously selected our new Director.
I am so happy to introduce St. Mark’s Day School’s new director, Maggie Sandford. Maggie stood out among the others with her two early childhood education degrees, a passion for educating young children, experience with special needs and gifted children, a handle on everything “technology”, and a vision for the future. Families will feel welcomed by her warm and inviting personality.
Maggie will begin at St. Mark’s on June 1st. Jane will work closely with Maggie this summer to help transition her into her new role. Please watch for an invitation coming soon, inviting you to a morning reception in May, welcoming Maggie.

Maggie shared this bio:
I feel so privileged to be the new director of St. Mark’s Day School in Barrington Hills. I was born and raised in Barrington and went to District 220 Schools. After graduating from Barrington High School in 2007, I attended the University of Illinois and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2011. At that time I decided I still wanted to know more about how young children learn, and I stayed in Champaign-Urbana for an additional year. I earned my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education in 2012.
I have spent the last five years teaching early learners. My first job was teaching third graders in Rockford at a charter school. I was a nanny and provided academic support to a soon to be Kindergartener. The Da Vinci Academy, a private school for gifted learners, has been my home for the last three years. I spent the first two years working in Pre-Kindergarten and am finishing up a wonderful year in first grade. Sadly, the school is in its last year and I have been in search of my new “home.” I am so excited to be joining such a wonderful and caring staff and look forward to learning and growing with all of your fabulous early learners!
My husband and I have a 13 month old son, Bruce. We have enjoyed watching him learn and grow this past year- in what seems to have been a blink of an eye! We currently live in Palatine with our tiny but fierce dachshund, Tilly. We love living near our families and spending lots of time with them. I am so looking forward to joining the St. Mark’s community this June!
